Mountain biking on the Hochkönig is without a doubt an experience in itself. There are more than 20 fantastic tours and the "Flow One Flowtrail", an adventure trail for mountain bikers. The mixture of woodland and meadows promises adrenaline fans more than 285 metres altitude of pure riding fun.
Hundstein circuit on the Hochkönig
The starting point for this day tour, which is some 43 kilometres in length, is the tourist office in the centre of Maria Alm. A very challenging tour proceeds from Maria Alm to the summit of the Hundstein at 2117 metres altitude. Once you get to the top, a dreamy mountain panorama awaits. From the highest point, Statzerhaus, you get to gaze across the expanse of Salzburger Land. It’s then back to Maria Alm via the Tauern Cycle Path.
Hochkönig road bike tour
This road bike tour is divided into four stages which are tackled over four days. Those of you who only want to do one stage, would be better to opt for the first one. This moderately difficult route proceeds from Maria Alm via Hinterthal to Dienten on the Hochkönig. Tip: Turn off just before the Grünegg snack station and head for Reicheralm. Once you get there, you are rewarded with a mesmerising view to the mountains and delicious, typically Austrian, food. You should reckon on around five hours for this tour, which covers some 30 kilometres.
Incidentally – anyone who wants to explore the region around the Hochkönig on an E-Bike can count themselves lucky. The area is the first to have E-Bike top-up points at numerous inns. So nothing stands in the way of you enjoying exuberant E-Bike tours!
